October we will host our third Sketch and Scribble event at the Art Gallery of NSW, 10am – 3pm.
On Sunday 21stOctober we will host our third Sketch and Scribble event at the Art Gallery of NSW, 10am – 3pm. This event is for children’s book writers and illustrators and is designed so we can exercise our creativity and connect with other SCBWI members.
We are fortunate to have Lindy Batchelor, with her lovely warm personality and amazing experience and expertise as our facilitator for the day. She will introduce the group to various works of art that may challenge and arouse our senses.
This Sketch and Scribble event involves walking from spot to spot in the Art Gallery with pauses at various locations where our facilitator, Lindy, will highlight and discuss certain paintings and sculptures. In addition to the works of art we will be observing our surroundings – architecture, people, setting and views – using all five senses and capturing as much as possible through writing and/or sketching. After these pauses we will then find a spot, sometimes together, sometimes apart, to write or draw our impressions for 15- 20 minutes or so.
Towards the end of the day we will share our discoveries. You can follow the group and use the writing and sketching prompts given by Lindy or you can do your own thing. There are no rules.
No registration is necessary and Entry to the Art Gallery of NSW is FREE. Just turn up—all SCBWI members welcome!
We will meet at the entrance to the Gallery ready for a 10am start. Look out for our SCBWI committee members.
We will then get to know each other and do some warm up sketching and scribbling exercises before we take off on our adventure. We will wander around the Gallery throughout the day. You can stay with the group or wander at your leisure. The facilitator prompts related to the venue will be given at various locations throughout the day to get your creative juices going and keep them going. Use them, ignore them, or rearrange them in any way you wish.
Lunch is at your own expense. The committee will meet for lunch at 1pm for maybe 30-40 mins (to be decided) possibly in the park opposite the Gallery if a fine day or in the Art Gallery Cafe if raining. Everyone is invited to join them if they wish. We will meet as a group at 2:30pm (place to be decided) to share our experiences, scribbles and sketches.
