Susan Raab, President, Raab Associates

15826746_10154992492924379_6574518750583827802_nSusan Raab has been in the book, arts and education business for more than 25 years. She founded Raab Associates as the only agency dedicated to promoting and marketing children’s books and family products. Over the years, that has expanded to include marketing for associations, educational institutions and arts organizations.

She serves as the Marketing Adviser to the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators and, since 1994, has written the “To Market” column for SCBWI’s international publication. She is a regular speaker at industry conventions and has discussed the industry, marketing and trends in many interviews on TV, radio and with the press.

Susan regularly reports on the publishing, education and non-profit issues as an international broadcast and print correspondent. Her interviews with thought leaders from around the world are heard on New Books Network hosted by Amherst College, Teachers for a New Era at the University of Connecticut, Teaching Books, and Kids Public Radio. She’s also been a national correspondent for Recess! Radio, a program syndicated nationally to 500 public radio stations.

She has given keynote presentations, lectures, master classes, workshops and training classes on industry trends, technology, publicity and marketing for organizations, including the American Booksellers Association, the Association of American Publishers, the Children’s Book Council, the Corzo Center for the Creative Economy, the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators International, and the Southampton Writers Conference.

Susan has served as advisor to the Bank Street Center for Children’s Literature, the Center for the Study of Children’s Literature and Culture at the University of Florida, the Julie Andrews Collection, and the Northeast Children’s Literature Center at the University of Connecticut. She is also an alumna of the University of Connecticut, where she co-sponsors an annual children’s illustration award, the Raab Prize, to encourage students to pursue careers in the arts.

Prior to starting the agency, Susan worked as publicity manager for Scholastic Incorporated, Dell Publishing and Bantam Books. She also worked as an account executive for high-tech products and as a book-buyer for a regional book chain.
